The Renaissance, Charleston Hotel Renovated a few years ago, the six-story Renaissance is located conveniently in Charleston's historic district close to Charleston's shopping, antiques, tours and waterfront; not to mention countless award winning restaurants and night life.
The lobby greets guests with ample seating for gathering or meeting before a day of site seeing. The lobby furniture itself is likely to spur conversation, as some of the pieces are unusual in design and construction, resembling 1920's art deco or possibly of Italian origin. Nonetheless, they are certainly unique. The marble floors, I'm happy to say, have remained intact in the lobby hinting at the promise of old style luxury along with a baby grand piano and decorative fireplace mantle, fashioned from the former bar of the hotel. Again, unique.
A renovated hotel lounge and restaurant at the Wentworth Grill are located at one end of the long lobby offering meals in thick leather seating and a decidedly masculine setting with solid and dark wood tables, wood paneled walls and seafaring artwork calling to mind the rugged days of ship's captains as masters of the universe. And for a lighter, al fresco type affair, there is also a patio lounge and restaurant just beyond the Wentworth Grill. Of course, in room dining is always an option for hotel guests. Located at the opposite end of the lobby are several meeting rooms that can be arranged as several smaller spaces or fewer large spaces, the largest being the Charleston Ballroom offering over 1700 square feet of meeting space for seating a maximum of 150 people. The hotel has 2,759 total square feet of meeting and event space, including a boardroom, banquet facilities, and the ballroom. Whether for personal or business, catering is available for functions of varying sizes and all amenities for audio/visual, wired and wireless services are available as well.
The Renaissance, Charleston boasts 6 floors and 166 rooms for guest accommodations including 122 kings and 40 doubles. There are also four two-room suites offering separate living and sleeping areas. The uniqueness of the lobby furnishings continues in the chosen pallet for the upper level common areas and guest rooms in the hotel. Having an Italian flair, the carpeting and wallpaper strive to incorporate a fusion of old world Europe and old world Charleston with accents of wrought iron and touches of silk.
The expected services of an upscale hotel are, of course, available: a 24-hour notions shop for the forgotten toiletries or snack, a heated outdoor pool, a fitness center, valet parking, free wireless Internet (in public areas), spa services, a business center, valet and concierge services.
Perhaps the most notable feature to the Renaissance Charleston Hotel, besides its prime real estate address is the service provided by the staff whose prevailing concern is customer comfort. For its location, in-house restaurant, fitness and spa services, as well as available function and well-equipped meeting space the Renaissance, Charleston Hotel earns a sound rating of 3 1/2 diamonds.
