Fulton Lane Inn Review

The Fulton Lane Inn is a stately member of the Charming Inn family located discreetly behind storefronts on the popular upscale King Street shopping district. Perhaps it is the combination of the tucked away address, well appointed rooms and immediate access to all Charleston has to see and offer that makes the Fulton Lane Inn so attractive to some celebrities.

The exterior of the inn beckons guests with gas lanterns offering a warm and glowing welcome to the inconspicuous hideaway. Early American bead board paneling lines the common areas, punctuated by heavy, four-panel wooden doors to each guest room. Recently renovated to combine the former Victoria House with The Fulton Lane Inn, creating one, 45-room luxury inn with advantages such as single or double king suites with four-poster beds and hand woven canopies lending to the establishment continuity of the Early American ambiance. But rest assured that the rooms at the Fulton Lane Inn offers the modern conveniences expected of a luxury hotel. Furnishings present something akin to a wealthy, West Indian feel with some well placed rattan accent pieces, light muslin upholstery, pleasant natural wall colors, light, natural fiber rugs and louvered shutters often used in earlier times to fend off the high heat of the day. Rooms are equipped with televisions, Jacuzzi tubs, and working fireplaces with the 12' ceilings and soaring windows to create a lovely contrast in providing a sense of old world elegance. Some suites offer full kitchenettes for self catering in-room meals but continental breakfast is complimentary and a good diamondt to each day. Full and queen sized pullout couches are available to accommodate families with young children, and for those who wish to travel with family but retain a bit of privacy and romance, the convenient alcove suites are an option.

Each room offers spacious quarters and oversized bath accommodations decorated in "old world European charm and timeless elegance and reminiscent of an 18th century French Hotel De Ville." Armoires have been designed to accommodate new flat screen televisions without losing their style and charm. Turndown service with a confection is a nightly comfort. Guestrooms range from one queen room to Junior Suite or Full Suites to suit all needs and levels of satisfaction.

Aside from being pet friendly, perhaps it is the alcove suites that make the Fulton Lane Inn known, not only for its attentive staff and concierge service or its opulent accommodations but for its family friendly lodgings as well. The alcove suites, for example, offer an arrangement of three separate rooms that can be combined for a single party and still remain private. A family can stay, arranging for parents in one room, children in the next and in-laws in the third all conveniently secure behind the main door to the alcove, each with its own bath, accoutrements and privacy, yet offering peace of mind providing individual rooms yet immediate and open access to the other rooms.

Often, the alcove rooms have provided the perfect accommodations for wedding and anniversary parties that have utilized the lovely meeting space available for just such functions. While not occupied with a joyous wedding or private gala event, the meeting space is the site for elegant affairs like wine tasting for the popular citywide event, the Progressive Dinner, where people enjoy an array of foods and wines at several Charleston establishments so that by the time the event is complete, they have experienced fine wine and dining at many of the top hotels in Charleston.

The Fulton Lane Inn has much to offer couples and families, business and leisure travelers. For its perfect and private downtown location, renowned service staff and family friendly luxury accommodations the Fulton Lane Inn earns an highly regarded 4-diamond rating.
