The Harbor View Restaurant Review

The Harbor View Restaurant is aptly named for the panoramic views that can be taken in from the top floor of the uniquely structured Holiday Inn River View Hotel. Located at 301 Savannah Hwy. and Hwy. 17, in Charleston, the recently renovated restaurant offers diners floor to ceiling windows that curve 360 degrees around the circular building for an unobstructed, breathtaking view of the waterfront where the West Ashley River meets the ocean. By day, many of the notable steeples of the city can be seen reaching up to the wide blue sky where cloud drift lazily past, ignoring the bustle of the city as they drift out to sea.

As one enjoys lunch, he or she can watch the ebb and flow of the boating traffic and keep rhythm with the briny tides as they fill the marshes with life and then venture back toward the distant horizon. By night, patrons can dine or enjoy a cocktail overlooking the romantic lighted cityscape and the astounding architecture of the Ravenel and West Ashley Bridges as they stand proudly putting us in mind of all that has passed under the old bridge and all that is in store to pass under the new one. This reverie and enjoyment over the sights from the Harbor View can be had in relative privacy as the unique curvature of the room gives the illusion of discreetly secluded seating.

Not surprisingly, the Harbor View offers a luncheon menu with a foundation of many preferred seafood dishes. Appetizers such as shrimp cocktail, New England clam chowder and the southern favorite, She-crab soup, among others, can be enjoyed for between $3.95 and $8.25. Traditional fare in the way of burgers and sandwiches can be had for an extremely reasonable price between $7.55 and $8.95 at the Harbor View Restaurant. Those looking for a more substantial meal can order upscale pasta dishes along with healthy choice salads for $12.95 to $17.95. The top price, $20.95 is for the seafood specialty, shrimp and scallops Alfredo with fettuccini. Another popular luncheon choice at the Harbor View is the ample salad bar offering a medley of vegetables, fruits, greens, pastas, bread, dressings, sprinkles and other treats you'd expect to find at a salad bar.

To compliment the menu options, a glass or bottle of wine may be chosen from the wine list, which is comprised of some familiar, crowd-pleasing vineyard selections such as Kendall Jackson, Robert Mondavi, Mirassou and some new comers making a name such as Fat Bastard of France. The Harbor View wine list also includes Champagnes bearing names like Mumm Cuvee, Korbel and Perrier Jouet, which can be ordered by the bottle.

The Harbor View is a room that would be suitable for a diverse range of functions. Areas of the dining room can be partitioned so absolute privacy for a business luncheon or wedding shower can be attained and appropriate services and menus can be applied for both. The full service bar, tastefully renovated room, efficient and accommodating service with reasonable luncheon prices would make the Harbor View at the Holiday Inn River View a good pick for a group function or a fun choice just for lunch with the spectacular views that will add much to any affair or meal so as to make it a special and memorable experience.
